Unmanned Aerial Systems

Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC) is known DOD-wide as a flexible and accommodating UAS training venue in the United States. Our five FAA Certificates of Authorization (COAs) covering 14 commonly used military platforms have expanded unmanned aircraft (UA) operational support capabilities. Additional systems can be added as needs arise and when units request activation. Jefferson Proving Ground and Camp Atterbury have dedicated UAV landing strips, and Camp Atterbury has a 5,000-foot runway. Users can reserve dedicated operations facilities, maintenance hangar, office space and classrooms. The site is staffed seven days a week. Staff onsite can provide knowledge of local operations and procedures, customer service and airspace de-confliction.

Camp Atterbury also provides areas for realistic flight training under VFR (Visual Flight Rules), night and night systems. Included are terrain flight areas, confined areas, and unit supported FARPs (Forward Arming & Refueling Point).

Certificates of Authorization (COAs)

Muscatatuck has FAA Certificates of Authorization (COAs) for UAS operations. These COAs that cover commonly used military platforms have expanded unmanned aircraft (UA) operational support capabilities. Additional systems can be added as needs arise and when units request activation. DOD UAS can operate in restricted airspace over Camp Atterbury and Jefferson Proving Ground (JPG). Civilian off-the-shelf unmanned aerial systems can operate on both sites with the appropriate DOD waivers.
